Učilnica za življenje | Classroom for Life

SLO (EN below):

V času podnebne krize in nujnosti ukrepanja, želimo s projektom Učilnica za življenje (ang. Classroom for Life) okrepiti in inovirati slovenski šolski sistem, da bo vzgajal in opolnomočil generacije proaktivnih posameznikov.

EN:

Classroom for Life it’s about reimagining pedagogical approaches, transforming classrooms into living habitats and teachers into sustainability facilitators.

Teachers have a hard time bringing climate and sustainability themes into classrooms. We expect them to apply innovative pedagogies to sustainability education when they often don’t benefit from them as part of their own learning. Furthermore, factory model education is inadequate in addressing complex challenges we are facing. Traditional teaching methods are still most often used and teachers have a poor understanding of how different approaches to sustainability relate to each other. This means that support for teachers is crucial.

In Slovenia, project Classroom for Life aims to introduce tools that will enable teachers to shift from teacher to sustainability facilitator – a role that is critical to any type of alternative learning approach (e.g. project or research-based learning). To support teachers in their work, we will design a teachers training and a manual for teachers in primary and secondary slovenian schools, develop 5 learning scenarios for primary schools, hold 2 annual conferences on environmental education and publish an academic publication related to the project results. Project activities are intended to transfer knowledge from eco-villages and transition movements to public schools. The training will be multiplied by the institutions of the Ministry of Education and the Faculty of Education may incorporate it in their courses.
